Art Experience I have been painting chairs since 1996. I have tried watercolor, stained glass, weaving, pottery and quilting, but found my true passion with chairs. It started with two bedroom chairs that I wanted to paint to match my quilt. It has now grown way beyond that. I have 200 chairs in storage that are waiting to be painted. I purchase most of my chairs at garage sales and then recycle them. I have now completed over 150 chairs.
My subject matter varies from animals to people to vehicles to scenes to designs. My chairs tell a story. Each chair has a personality and I try to find the perfect chair to fit every theme I paint. I will never go back to painting on canvas. The chair is my canvas. I find it more challenging and interesting to paint on a three dimensional surface. I have to be constantly turning the chair around to consider all angles at which it will be viewed. This sometimes turns me into a gymnast when painting. I admit I am obsessed with chairs and have used them as a vehicle to express many deep feelings. Minnesota Publications / Press Releases
